What Is a Registered Agent in Colorado?

A registered agent in Colorado is the designated individual or entity authorized to receive service of process, official legal documents, and correspondence from the Colorado Secretary of State on behalf of your business. Every LLC and corporation registered in the state must maintain a registered agent with a physical Colorado address at all times.

Your agent accepts court summons, subpoenas, and other legal notices and forwards them to you promptly. They also receive periodic report reminders and other official correspondence from the Secretary of State.

Colorado requires your registered agent to have a physical street address in the state — P.O. boxes are not permitted. Your agent must be available during regular business hours to receive documents.

Colorado Business Corporation Act / LLC Act Under C.R.S. § 7-90-701 (covering both corporations and LLCs), every domestic and foreign entity registered in Colorado must continuously maintain a registered agent at a registered office in the state.
