What Is a Registered Agent in Kentucky?

A registered agent in Kentucky is the designated individual or entity authorized to receive service of process, official legal documents, and correspondence from the Kentucky Secretary of State on behalf of your business. Every LLC and corporation registered in the state must maintain a registered agent with a physical Kentucky address at all times.

Your agent accepts court summons, subpoenas, and other legal notices and forwards them to you promptly. They also receive annual report reminders and other official correspondence from the Secretary of State.

Kentucky requires your registered agent to have a physical street address in the state — P.O. boxes are not permitted. Your agent must be available during regular business hours to accept documents.

Kentucky Revised Statutes Under KRS § 271B.5-010 (corporations) and KRS § 275.025 (LLCs), every domestic and foreign entity registered in Kentucky must continuously maintain a registered agent at a registered office in the state. The registered office must be a physical street address. Failure to maintain a registered agent can result in administrative dissolution or revocation of authority to conduct business.
